DEAL DONE: Tiago Ilori to Liverpool

Liverpool have woken up early this morning on transfer deadline day to confirm the signing of Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon.

The 20-year-old was at Anfield yesterday to watch his new teammates beat Manchester United 1-0 at Anfield to go top of the Premier League.

Ilori also completed a medical at Melwood over the weekend and has put pen to paper on a long-term deal on Merseyside.

On his arrival at Liverpool, Ilori told the club’s official website, “It feels great being a Liverpool player – coming to the Premier League has always been a dream for me.

“I’m going to try and achieve everything I can. I want to play as much as possible and we’ll see what the future holds. I will give my all and try my best to help the team.”

In what could turn out to be a busy day of movement in the transfer market for Liverpool, the news of Ilori will come as a relief to many Reds fans wishing Brendan Rodgers brought in a new centre-back this summer.

Ilori is yet to play for the Portuguese national team, but has made appearances for the U18, U19 and U20 international teams.

Earlier this year we brought you a full scouting report on Ilori – read it here.

Welcome to Liverpool, Tiago Ilori.
