Ayre: Suarez can stay, we’ll do more business

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre insists Luis Suarez can remain at the club this season and that supporters will accept him back despite his public courting of a move away this summer.

Suarez has, of course, been agitating for a move away from Anfield – most notably to Real Madrid – but Liverpool are remaining firm in their stance that they want the Uruguayan to remain at Anfield.

“We’d love to see Luis put on a Liverpool shirt for this season and beyond and we hope that once he gets back things will settle down” explained Ayre in an interview with Bloomberg news agency.

After initially blaming the media for wanting to leave Liverpool, Suarez has now turned to claiming his desire to play Champions League football is central to his request to leave. Ayre commented “It’s our job to convince Luis that this is the right place to achieve those things.”

Meanwhile, Ayre insisted that more new signings will arrive, following the four early captures of Simon Mignolet, Luis Alberto, Kolo Toure and Iago Aspas. “We’ll do some more business, there’s no doubt about that” he vowed.

Reports on Monday claimed Arsenal were ready to return with an improved offer of £35m for Suarez, but that will be rejected by Liverpool who are insisting that they want Suarez to stay at the club. If he was to leave it would only be for the price they value him at, which is closer to £50m.

Suarez is scheduled to report for pre-season training on July 21st.
