Luis Alberto: “I’d be foolish to say no to Liverpool”

Reported Liverpool transfer target Luis Alberto Romero is quoted in Spanish media discussing a potential move to Anfield.

“It would be foolish and deluded for me to say no to a club like Liverpool”, he is quoted in Spanish paper El Desmarque.

The 20 year old attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool. Last week Spanish journalist Guillem Balague wrote that “Aside from Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto is the other Spanish player that is about to agree to join Liverpool.”

Sevilla newspaper Diario de Sevilla report that negotiations have begun, with Liverpool offering €8m and Sevilla wanting €9.5m.

Alberto is a product of La Liga side Sevilla, but spent last season on loan to Barcelona ‘B’. The Catalan side had the option to make the move permanent but decided against it – reportedly as Barca have a lot of players in a similar position already. Alberto scored 11 goals and 17 assists in 35 appearances last season.

Alberto is described as being a similar player to Philippe Coutinho, playing mostly as an attacking midfielder.

With fellow attacking midfielder Jonjo Shelvey linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, Alberto appears to be a replacement for the Englishman; similar age, similar position, but different style and ability – one being more suited to Brendan Rodgers’ style of play.
