Loan Watch: How’s Spearing doing at Bolton?

Jay Spearing

Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing joined Championship side Bolton on a season loan at the end of the summer transfer window.

He’s been a regular for the recently relegated side, despite a change of manager’s when Owen Coyle parted ways and was replaced by Dougie Freedman. Jay has made 15 appearances so far for the Lancashire club, scoring once.

Bolton though are struggling with life back in the Championship and are currently 18th. Although, they went undefeated in November.

We got the thoughts of some Wanderers regulars at The Wanderer forum to find out what they think of Spearing at The Reebok Stadium.

boltonboris: Bit sloppy in possession sometimes, but he’s perfectly fine for us.

Jez: Solid. Found his level with us and offers a sort of holding midfielder role we lost with muamba. Good player and I definitely wouldnt mind if a permenant deal happened personally.

m_taylor: He is good at breaking play up. Better suited to a 5 man midfield so he can just sit in front of the back 4 but struggles in a 4-4-2 when ever he crosses the half way line. I think he will be better if Holden ever comes back and to the form he was.

DIPS: Absolute master stroke of a signing. One of Coyle’s last positive impacts on the club. Very good at taking payers on, getting tackles in, first touch is great. Would be first name on the team sheet for me. Imagine him with Holden alongside him. I hope we sign him permanently.

BWFC_Insane: He’s an honest lad. He tries hard. I think he thinks he’s better than he is. His passing is awful, yet he tries to overcomplicate it frequently.

Harry Genshaw: I like the guy and would be chuffed if we could sign him permanently. Given the Ngog factor I would be hoping for a huge discount mind

officer_dibble: Wholehearted lad. Best he”ll make is a lower premier league midfielder talentwise i think. Maybe you will recall him?
