Liverpool conceded three late on to let a two goal lead slip away in dramatic circumstances at struggling Queen’s Park Rangers.

Sebastian Coates had smashed home his first goal for Liverpool with a stunning scissor kick volley from ten yards out to score the opening goal of the encounter at Loftus Road.

However, QPR didn’t put up too much resistance and Kenny Dalglish‘s men controlled the game comfortably for long periods, but seldom created chances – the story of Liverpool’s season.

It was substitute Coates’ stunning strike shortly after the break that broke the deadline, the ball falling to the Uruguayan around the penalty spot. The young defender delivered fantastic agility to rise for an unstoppable scissor kick through a crowd of players and QPR keeper Paddy Kenny.

Dirk Kuyt, starting the game, put the game to bed when great work from both Luis Suarez and Stewart Downing resulted in the ball falling to the Dutch international who stuck the ball home for Liverpool’s second.

Some slack Reds defending late on let in Shaun Derry to net one back for the West Londoners, heading home from a corner, before former Liverpool striker Cisse grabbed an equaliser in the dying minutes of the game.

Jamie Mackie added the final blow with a winner for the home side deep into injury time.

Liverpool were rocked by the three late goals, and struggled to create much more as the game fizzled out in chilly London.

The Reds lost Martin Kelly during the first half to injury, hence Coates’ introduction and Charlie Adam was forced off for Jordan Henderson with a calf problem at half-time.

Liverpool’s frustrating season continues and yet another result sees any dreams of reaching the lucrative fourth Champions League spot surely extinguished.

The Reds head back to Merseyside now, where they face Wigan Athletic at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
